Third time's a charm!

So clearly I did not get my 'Year of My Own Making' off to a rousing start. Or any start for that matter. 2013 was not exactly a great year for me. Nothing horrible happened. Just lots of stressors, challenges (and I don't mean in a good way) and disappointments. I can't say I was really that sad to see it go.

I do however have high hopes for the new year. 2014 I think is showing some promise. So I am going to give this project a whirl again. To put my love of Pinterest into action, to finish all those half-done projects, and to push my self a little farther than I have done in the past.

I realize it is half way through February, but I am going to post what I have already done this year and move on from there. Trying not to get stuck in the past and working towards new goals will be good for me. The biggest challenges I will have to tackle are squeezing in time around my children and household duties, balancing those things with getting my Barefoot Books business and Pre/Postnatal fitness business off the ground, and my disaster of a craft area.

I hope you will join me with your own year of making things. It should be quite a journey!

A year of my own making

I created a page for the "Year of my Own Making" project and then never did anything with it. I'm finally got to get off my can and do something about that. My year with start with June 2013. It's a new month, I'm ready for some change, this seems like as good time as any, and I have several projects that I have been dreaming of, but not actually doing!

These projects will be craft, cooking, sewing, and home improvement projects. All of the projects will me handmade by me. It will stretch my creative side and let me see what saves money and what doesn't and what is just plain fun!

I am also going to try and take my love of Pinterest and put it to work. I hope to get one cooking and one crafting/sewing project done from something I have pinned weekly. That is probably pretty ambitious, but I'm going to give it a whirl.

I hope you'll join me for a year of my own making...

Happy

Happy is... watching my boys running and chasing fireflies in the soft light of dusk, hearing their squeals of joy at this new found perk of a southern summer.

Happy is... listening to the crickets and bullfrogs as we enjoy a late, but scrumptious dinner on the porch.

Happy is... knowing that I got two more boxes unpacked today, a small, but achievable goal in the overwhelming task of moving for the umpteenth time with two kids.

Happy is... a 10 year anniversary lunch with my sweetie.

Happy is... looking forward to visiting family tomorrow for a surprise 40th birthday party.

Hoping your Friday was happy too!

link to an awesome giveaway

I rediscovered the great blog The Cottage Home yesterday. She has some great recipes and tutorials and it is fun to explore and find neat things to make. She is currently having a giveaway for a fat quarter bundle of beautiful Japanese fabrics and 2 rolls of washi tape. The giveaway is sponsored by Modes4u.  You should definitely check them out as they have some beautiful fabric at very reasonable prices. Good Luck!

whoa!

Clearly I did not get off to a good start with this blog. Life took several different turns and alas I spent a long time away from my computer. It has been a flurry of activity between pulling my older son out of a preschool that was not a good fit, several rounds of sick kids, and then finding out we were moving across the country for my partner's new job. While there are still stacks of boxes to be unpacked, the "dust" is finally starting to settle a little. Hopefully over the next couple of weeks, I will be able to get both the bedrooms in more of a functional and enjoyable condition. The kids playroom and my office/craft room and unfortunately relegated to the last project. I hope to get to it soon though so I can start working on making Christmas gifts and finish a few overdue projects that are already in the works.  It is looking like "My Year of My Own Making Project" isn't really going to get it's start until October!

Hope you all have a wonderful Wednesday and take care until I post again...

Oh the sick days

this has been a hard week for us. my little has been sick. i'm not sure with what, but it has involved a fever, crying, lots of holding, what i thought to be possibly ear or throat pain, and now a rash all over his little body. what this translates to, is me not getting much done. between holding the sweet boy, taking care of big brother's needs and not getting much sleep, i am exhausted at the end of each day, and just cringe when i think about washing dishes or folding laundry. i know that as i let it pile up, i am just creating more work for my self, but i can not seem to motivate myself. my recently acquired status of "most improved housewife" that i earned after an intense cleaning frenzy over the last week and a half has quickly been stripped from me. the house is a wreck! i try and remember they are only little once and that i should soak up all the snuggling and holding while i can, but then i get a scathing look from my partner as she arrives home to the mess, and the guilty feelings pile on as i quietly slink away.

my goal for the next week is to work on breaking the projects down to get little bits of success. half a load of dishes...better than none! laundry folded...score! each little bit moves me closer to a clean house and more time to spend with my beautiful boys.
